RECORDS were smashed in the latest episode of The 1% Club as one contestant scooped the show’s biggest-ever jackpot.
Viewers tuned in for the latest instalment of Lee Mack‘s ITV hit, which aired on Saturday, to be met with an episode that will go down in history.
The popular programme sees 100 contestants compete for a £100,000 prize pot by answering 15 logic-inspired questions that get progressively harder through the rounds.
It kicks off with a question which 90 per cent of the population polled got right, then poses brain-teasers which smaller and smaller percentages of the country got right, culminating with a 1% question.
Contestant Matthew bagged a life-changing £99,000 when he answered the final question of the challenge correctly.
The final question was an anagram – and saw five competitors in with a chance of the prize.
Yet the other four admitted they were clueless, leaving Matthew to theorise a word and sent it through.
After a short pause, show anchor Lee Mack told him his response was correct.
He confirmed the response was ‘elephant’ which prompted a huge smile and fist pump from the contestant, who donned an orange shirt and glasses for his TV stint.
Lee then told him: “Congratulations Matthew! You are the winner to everything in the prize pot! That’s £99,000!”
On social media, one fan was quick to write: “Huge credit to you Matthew honestly that is sublime!
“Handled the pressure well, enjoy the prize.”

Previously, show fans called out an “incorrect” answer on the hit series – and were left less than impressed.
During the episode, the contestants faced a baffling animal-related question which read: “Without reordering any letters, how many animals appear in the sequence below?”
The question included the jumbled word “PHEASANTORTOISEALION”.
Viewers attempted to answer the question on social media but fans were divided on what constituted the correct answer.
Later, Lee revealed the answer was six animals – pheasant, sealion, ant, seal, tortoise, and lion but fans weren’t as sure.
One viewer said: “#The1PercentClub An ant is NOT an animal! Outrage!”
Previously, one contestant was tasked with the “hardest question ever” – and got it spot on.
Yet others missed out on a whopping £96K cash pot after failing to answer the “easiest ever” question correctly.
