Cops responded to reports of a disturbance

Cops said a report would be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.40pm on Tuesday, 15 April, 2025, we received a report of a disturbance in Stobbs Crescent, Kilwinning.

“Officers attended and a 31-year-old man was traced in a play park nearby.

“He was arrested and charged in connection with an assault involving a three-year-old child.”

The incident comes just days after Kilwinning was rocked by the explosion of thousands of batteries at a bust recycling factory.

We told how the terrifying inferno shocked residents near the unattended Fenix Recycling Centre which was was forced to close last September.

Residents told how the blaze, which sent batteries flying into the air, made their neighbourhood resemble a “war zone”.

The site at the Byrehill Industrial Estate was mothballed after the firm was stripped of its operating licence.

It came as part of an “enhanced package of enforcement action” requiring the firm to remove any waste in breach of strict rules to another facility.

Labour councillor Donald Reid said he had lobbied for the dangerous site to be cleared.
