DEAR DEIDRE: DUE to the fact I can’t afford to fix my teeth, my love life is in tatters.

I’m 45. I had an NHS dentist in my previous town.

Since I’ve moved, my only options are very expensive private clinics where even a basic check-up costs £100.

I can’t afford those, so I’m stuck with a dodgy smile.

I’ve met a lovely man at work and he has asked me out. I can’t go.

I’m worried my teeth are giving me bad breath so any kissing is out of the question.

Plus it sometimes hurts to chew, so I fear that a dinner date would be a nightmare. Please help.

DEIDRE SAYS: Private dental work can be expensive.

Find your nearest NHS dentist by looking online at nhs.uk.

If you are in pain, call 111 and they will put you in touch with your nearest NHS urgent dental service.

Do not put off love until you have fixed your smile.

Ask a friend to give you an honest opinion on your breath and take a packet of mints along on your date.

You can explain you have tooth pain so can’t eat anything chewy.
