CHANNEL 5’s new drama, Au Pair, has been slammed by viewers who call it “predictable tripe” and say the network has “reach a new low”.
The series, which stars Vera favourite Kenny Doughty and acting legend Sir David Suchet, as well as Sally Bretton and French actress Ludmilla Makowski, follows a picture-perfect family living in the idyllic Cotswolds.
David plays George in Channel 5’s The Au Pair, a diabetic father who moves to live next door to his daughter Zoe, played by Beyond Paradise’s Sally Bretton.
Zoe seems to have it all, a successful husband Chris, played by Kenny, two adorable stepchildren, a thriving tailoring business, and a gorgeous countryside home in a picturesque English town.
However, all is not as it seems as she experiences marital issues and mounting pressure after George moves in next door.
When Zoe hires Sandrine (Ludmilla), a beguiling French au pair, she triggers an unsettling shift in the household as instincts and suspicions arise.
Things take a dark turn as her dangerous and twisted background pulls the family into a web of secrets that threaten lives.
Despite the interesting premise, the show has received mixed reviews from viewers.
After watching the second episode, one X user critiqued: “I have the tv drama #theaupair on in the background. Seems like a load of predictable tripe.”
Another person questioned: “Who writes these scripts! #TheAuPair.” Someone else grumbled: “OK, the au pair has set the scene. We know she’s an evil b***h. But this needs to move on now before I start getting bored #theaupair.”
While a fourth user penned: “Is Au Pair on channel 5 the worst drama ever #channel5.”
However, not everyone was in agreement with the negative reviews, with many expressing how much they were enjoying it.
