A HUGE new train station is set to open in a major UK city which has been described as a ‘game-changer’.
St Mellons in Cardiff, being dubbed Cardiff Parkway Station, has finally given the go-ahead, nearly three years after getting planning permission back in 2022.

The new station will be seven minutes from the main central Cardiff station, and hopes to “improve connectivity to other areas of the country and the wider UK”.
The four platform railway station would have eight trains an hour between Cardiff and Newport.
And longer train routes would include connections to Bristol, Manchester and London.
It would welcome more than 800,000 people a year, when built.
New park and ride facilities would improve access to the station, which isn’t common across Cardiff.
Initial plans set the cost of the new station at £120million, although this is likely to go up.
Cardiff Council Leader, Cllr Huw Thomas said the new station would “enhance the city’s future“.
He added: “Cardiff Parkway will significantly improve our transport infrastructure, leading to economic growth and job creation across Cardiff and the wider region.”
And Senedd Member for South Wales Central, Andrew RT Davies MS added: “This new station will be a game changer for Cardiff.”
The last time East Cardiff had a railway station was in 1959 with one in Marshfield, Newport.
