Train chaos as car crashes into roundabout & lands on tracks with line CLOSED sparking huge delays during rush hour

BRITS have been hit by major train delays this morning after a car crashed into a roundabout and landed onto railway tracks underneath.

Commuters are being warned to expect major disruption near Manchester city centre following the massive collision.

Police say a car crashed at Regent Road roundabout, in Salford, before landing on the train tracks beneath.

The vehicle’s driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving, officers added.

All railway lines between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester are closed as a result.

Transport for Wales, TransPennine Express and Northern Rail also face significant disruption.

Rail replacement services will run between Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Victoria but customers have been warned that travel time may be increased by 90 minutes.

The incident is also affecting trains between Wigan North Western and Manchester and the A57 Regent Road, off the M602.

Customers affected by delays or cancellations may be entitled to compensation.

A GMP Traffic spokesperson wrote on X: “Regent Rd Roundabout, Salford. Please expect some delays this morning while remedial works are carried out following a 1 vehicle collision.

“There will also be disruption to the rail network as the car has landed on the train tracks. Driver arrested for positive breath sample.”

A National Rail spokesperson added: “Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Newton-le-Willows / Wigan North Western and Manchester Oxford Road / Manchester Victoria all lines are currently closed.

“As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed or diverted. Disruption is expected until 13:00.”
