The big race is off at 3.35pm and will be shown live on ITV1.

Templegate’s Scottish Grand National runner-by-runner guide

MR INCREDIBLE 1

NOT so Incredible. Far stayer at best but has failed to complete including when pulled up here last year. Looks Mr impossible off top-weight.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dmr_incredible%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

HENRY’S FRIEND 1

FRIEND-less. Useful form over three miles but yet to prove himself over marathon trips. Plenty to find off this rating.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dhenrys_friend%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

OUR POWER 2

POWER CUT. Best days probably behind him. Loves decent ground but this marathon test will prove beyond him.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dour_power%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

OLYMPIC MAN 4

OLYMPIC medal. Yet to see the best of him and comes here with confidence high after a battling win over two and half miles at Naas last month. This sort of trip is an unknown but his ability to travel at a fast pace will be a major asset.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dolympic_man%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

MACDERMOTT 4

BIG Mac. Battled well to win this last year. A 5lb higher mark is unlikely to stop him from making a bold bid to win this back-to-back. Has shown nothing so far this season but has clearly been laid out for a repeat bid.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dmacdermott%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

FAMOUS BRIDGE 3

SOLID Bridge. In decent form this season. Won National trial at Haydock before solid effort in the Ultima at Cheltenham over shorter. This trip will suit, but would not want the ground to get any quicker.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dfamous_bridge%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

CAPTAIN CODY 3

FLAT Cap. Very strong stayer and has a touch of class but his jumping is not the most assured. His rider was softly unseated in the National Hunt Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last month. His best form is in the mud, though.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dcaptain_cody%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

SURREY QUEST 5

GOLD Quest. He ran a mighty race when only beaten a nose by Macdermott last year. Returns here off a 6lb higher mark but he has had a quiet season with this valuable prize his main aim. Good ground will be fine and he looks decent value to spoil the Willie Mullins raiding party.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dsurrey_quest%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

CHOSEN WITNESS 2

UNRELIABLE Witness. Big ante-post plunge but has a bit to prove on chasing form. Won here over hurdles last year so track will suit, stamina unlikely to be an issue but lack of experience may prove costly.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dchosen_witness%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

SPANISH HARLEM 2

NO Span fan. Decent effort when sixth in this last year and 4lb lower in the weights this time but will find a few too good on quicker ground.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dspanish_harlem%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

HASTHING 3

HAS a chance. Unlucky to fall when booked for a place in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham. Jumping is not the best but still has potential.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dhasthing%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

ROCK MY WAY 3

ROCK ‘n Roll. Career best when runner-up in the National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham. Jumping is scrappy but no doubting his stamina.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Drock_my_way%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

SAIL AWAY 2

SAIL fail. Looks Dan Skelton’s No1 but has plenty to find on recent form. Won novice handicap here in 2023 but it has been all down hill since.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dsail_away%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

WISEGUY 2

WISE up. Best form is in small fields when allowed to dominate. Unlikely to get an easy lead here and jumping is a little suspect.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dwiseguy%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

FLASH DE TOUZAINE 4

FLASH point. Live outsider who returned to form with a bang at Limerick last month. Hit the line strong that day and he’s proven around this track and trip when finishing third in 2023 renewal.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dflash_de_touzaine%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

WALKING ON AIR 3

AIR shot. Looks the right type for this test judged on his unlucky Doncaster effort. Was in control that day when taking a final fence fall. Below best at Cheltenham but worth another chance.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dwalking_on_air%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

THE KNIPHAND 3

HAND up. Career best when runner-up in the Grimthorpe at Doncaster last month. A stamina test will suit and he must have leading place claims.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dthe_kniphand%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

GROZNI 2

GRO no. No stamina doubts and ran well for a long way in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham. Others appeal more.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dgrozni%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

DOM OF MARY 1

DOM bomb. Decent staying form in minor races at smaller tracks but plenty to prove at this level. Needs hail Mary.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Ddom_of_mary%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

SNIPE 1

SNIPE tripe. Another Skelton dart, but barely stays three miles, let alone four. Will travel well but will be firing blanks when the race hots up.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dsnipe%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

KLARC KENT 3

KENT sent. Last of the Mullins’ battalion and 10lb lower than when a closing fourth last year. Can hit the frame.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dklarc_kent%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

MAGNA SAM 4

SUPER Sam. Powerful win in the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh in February. Relishes a proper test of stamina and can improve on his fifth in the 2023 renewal.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dmagna_sam%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

BRANDT 3

BRANDT new. Sneaks in off a lovely racing weight. Impressed in the Dublin National at Leopardstown last time and the brilliant Sean Bowen rides. Place chance.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dbrandt%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

Templegate’s Scottish Grand National tip and 1-2-3-4 prediction

SURREY QUEST was just denied in a head-bobber by Willie Mullins’ Macdermott 12 months ago and his whole season has been geared to peak for this afternoon’s race.

[iframe src=”https%3A%2F%2Ffragments.sunracingtech.uk%2Fbest_price%3Fhorse%3Dsurrey_quest%26date%3D2025-04-12%26time%3D15%253A35%26course%3Dayr” /]

The stayer, trained by Toby Lawes will love the ground and can put a minor dent in Mullins’ title defence.

The Closutton handler runs six of his 11 entries in this four-mile marathon with Chosen Witness looking like his number one.

However, unexposed Olympic Man and last year’s winner Macdermott look better.

And bigger dangers could lie with Nicky Richards’ Famous Bridge and Liz Doyle’s Flash De Touzaine.
