One happy shopper said: “Couldn’t resist popping down after seeing some of the posts to see if they had any plants at my local.

“Got some Christmas trees, bulbs for the garden and a couple of Cyclamen, rounded off with some grow your own trees which I spotted on the way to the checkout.

“All reduced to a penny each. Two of the trees had lights on them lol!”

Another added: “Thank you very much to whoever posted everything was 1p.

“Total [of] 38p spent at Sainsbury’s.

“I went back and got more even the Christmas trees in basket pots were 1p.”

A photo of the customer’s basket showed that they had managed to pick up a jumble of mini planters, as well as a couple of vases and some pot plants for under £1.

And one mum picked up a special treat for her kids in the form of a box of hot chocolate cereal mix reduced to just 50p.
