PREMIER LEAGUE owner Tony Bloom has lost £50,000 after betting on his own horse at Cheltenham.

Energumene was beaten to the post by Marine Nationale in the Queen Mother Champion Chase.

It led the way for the majority of the race but ended up finishing last out of the horses that finished.

Favourite Jonbon was beaten to the finish line by Marine Nationale after almost falling midway through the race.

Two horses did fall, Libberty Hunter and Quilixios, with Energumene the last horse to cross the line in sixth.

Bloom is now down £50,000 and his bad luck at Cheltenham continues.

The Brighton chief owns several horses and he has never shied away from backing them with cash.

Last year he is believed to have lost £100,000 after backing his mare Atlantique in the Novices’ Hurdle.

Atlantique finished third with Ballyburn picking up the win.

Bloom will not be the only disappointed punter from the Queen Mother Champion Chase as heavy favourite Jonbon also came up short.

It comes after Ballyburn, a favourite again, lost in the Brown Advisory Novices Chase, with Lecky Watson winning.

Boxer Derek Chisora had advised fans to “bet the house” on Ballyburn, leading ITV cameras to cut short their interview.
