KANSAS City Chiefs star Xavier Worthy has been released after being arrested on a felony domestic violence charge.
The NFL wide receiver was hauled to a county jail in Texas on a charge of assault against a family member.
Online arrest records at Williamson County state that the alleged assault impeded the victim’s ability to breathe or caused them to choke.
However, he was set free after cops said they will not press charges against the Super Bowl player.
Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told the Statesman that his office is not accepting the case.
In a statement, Dick said: “After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
“Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation. We will continue to evaluate the case.
“As is our practice with all declines, should you develop additional information indicative of probable cause in this case, our office will consider that information and may present the case at that time to a Williamson County Grand Jury.”
The 21-year-old Chiefs rookie could have faced up to 10 years behind bars for a third-degree felony under Texas law.
No further details of his arrest were given and the victim is unknown.
The wide receiver is engaged to sprinter Tia Jones and the pair revealed that they own a home together.
However, it is not known if this is where the alleged incident took place.
Worthy’s attorneys Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett told the AP in a statement that their client was innocent fro the beginning.
They said the allegation was made by a female who had been living in Worthy’s home in Williamson County.
The statement added the female had been asked to leave the home multiple times over the last two weeks upon discovery of her infidelity.
“She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr Worthy,” the statement read.
“The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of.”
It is understood that Worthy told law enforcement at the time of the incident he did not want to press charges against the complainant.
NFL said in a statement: “We are aware of the matter and have been in contact with the club.”
Worthy was drafted by the Chiefs 20th overall in 2024 and scored two touchdowns in the Super Bowl in February.
In his first season, Worthy had 59 catches for 638 yards and six touchdowns, and 20 rushes for 104 yards and three more scores.
