How Kate’s cancer diagnosis almost sparked reunion with Meghan and Harry before they fell back into ‘Ice and fire’ feud

MEGHAN Markle offered a “kind, if formal” olive branch to Kate Middleton – sparking a “very temporary truce” in their explosive feud, it has been claimed.

But, despite the brief communication, relations between the warring sisters-in-law have not improved.

Tom Quinn claims the pair were in touch following the Princess of Wales’ cancer treatment

The Duchess of Sussex, 43, and Prince Harry, are understood to have contacted the Princess of Wales, also 43, after she announced she was undergoing cancer treatment in September.

Tom Quinn, author of revelatory new book Yes Ma’Am, The Secret Life of Royal Servants, exclusively told Fabulous: “Kate‘s cancer diagnosis really threw Meghan and Harry.

“Meghan’s relationship with Kate was already beyond repair, but there was no way the shocking cancer diagnosis could be completely ignored.

“The result? A very temporary truce that saw kind, if formal, messages of sympathy winging their way from California to Windsor.”

Quinn claims the Sussexes contacted the Princess through private channels to send their wishes – helping to briefly ease tensions between the warring couples.

They also shared a public statement to the Princess which read: “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”

Meghan and Harry – who now live in a £12million home in Montecito with Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three – have made a number of bombshell claims about the Royal Family since stepping down from official duties in 2020.

The couple did a tell-all chat with Oprah Winfrey, where they accused a Royal Family member of voicing concerns about their son Archie’s skin colour, and Meghan claimed Kate made her cry over her bridesmaid dresses.

Harry has also slammed the Royal Family in his bombshell Spare memoir where he alleged William ‘attacked’ him in a row over Meghan.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also spilled details about the royal family in their Harry & Meghan Netflix documentary.

Princess Kate confirmed in January that she is now in remission following her cancer treatment, and it is understood she will make a gradual return to royal duties.

Tom claims that since this announcement, the two women have barely spoken.

He continued: “Beyond those formal messages Kate and Meghan’s feud continues, but as they have nothing to do with each other it’s more about ice than fire.

“Unforgiveable things have been said and cannot be unsaid.”

He added: “The messages of sympathy were strictly limited; there were no warm gossipy chit-chats by phone and once Kate was in remission the great icy silence descended once again.”

The last time Meghan and Kate were pictured together in public was in 2022 ahead of the late Queen’s funeral, during a walkabout with their husbands in Windsor.

Tom claims it’s unlikely Meghan and Kate will become friendly any time soon.

He said: “With Meghan’s desire to do good in the world you might think she would be the bigger person and let bygones be bygones, but her practical sympathy for others does not extend to her brother and sister-in-law.

“And there’s another problem: if they kiss and make up with William and Kate, then Meghan and Harry will have lost a major part of the very thing that makes them interesting – that they are royal rebels.”

Journalist and author Tom’s book includes claims from the Sussexes’ former staff members that Meghan was accused of flirting with Prince William by hugging and kissing him every time they saw each other.

The Duchess of Sussex is said to have had a “hug everyone” approach after she joined the Royal Family – which caused some tension.

Sources told The Times Princess Kate, William and King Charles would flinch whenever Meghan moved in to embrace them.

‘Messiah complex’

The newspaper reports: “The hugging and cheek-kissing fuelled gossip among the staff that Meghan was flirting with William, which she was obviously not, but the tense atmosphere caused by all the touchy-feeliness (and the resultant gossip) deepened the rift between the brothers.

“In fact, William’s rather awkward, even inhibited personality — an inheritance from his father — was baffling for the more spontaneous Meghan.”

The Duchess of Sussex also allegedly “had a messiah complex” and accused senior royals of behaving like babies, an insider has claimed.

The Sun has contacted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s representatives for comment.

Tom Quinn’s upcoming book Yes Ma’Am, The Secret Life of Royal Servants, will be published by Biteback and available from Amazon.
