M60 traffic: Busy motorway CLOSED due to 4-car crash sparking huge queues during rush hour

A FOUR-CAR crash sparked rush-hour chaos on the M60 this morning with huge queues and hour-long delays.

Two lanes closed near to junction 24 at Denton Island on the M60 clockwise with traffic stretching back past junction 23 at Ashton-under-Lyne.

The Daisy Nook area towards Oldham also faced queues.

An update from Inrix said: “Queueing traffic and two lanes closed due to accident on M60 clockwise after J24 A57 (Denton Island).” 

National Highways issued warnings for severe congestion with expected delays of 60 minutes.

It also advised motorists to allow extra time for their journey.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, National Highways confirmed that two of three lanes have been closed following the four-vehicle collision.

Footage released by National Highways shows the stretch of traffic and congestion in all lanes.

Two lanes were closed for two hours with heavy traffic still approaching the scene.

There has been a second motorway disturbance resulting in two lanes closing between junction 16 at Clifton and 15 for the M61.

A National Highways spokesperson wrote on X: “2 (of 4) lanes closed on the #M60 in #GreaterManchester anti-clockwise between J16 #Clifton and J15 #Bolton due to a broken down vehicle. Please allow extra time for your journey, thank you for your patience.”

The traffic agency has since confirmed that all lanes on the M60 near Denton Island have reopened.
