ITV has revealed plans for an ‘exhilarating’ new TV series, after it snapped up a popular programme from Norway.

The Box is set to join ITV, with the broadcaster putting out a call for production companies to bid to create the new show.

The show in Norway used celebrities as contestants but its thought the ITV version would use the general public to take part.

The show sees a cast of contestants placed ‘at mercy’ of the show as they each enter a box and are transferred to a different location.

When the box opens at the new location, the contestant must face whatever is in front of them.

Aleksander Herresthal, Chief Creative Officer at Seefood TV said: “The response to The Box worldwide has been incredible—almost overwhelming in the best way.

“Bringing it to the UK with ITV is a major achievement and a significant next step for our format…

“From the moment I connected with ITV, I knew this would be the perfect home for the format.

“The creative team truly valued the content, and they challenged our ideas while they stayed true to the premise.

“Their insightful questions showed a deep commitment to fully understanding the concept and elevating it to new heights.”

He continued: “It’s exactly the kind of collaboration you want – working with people who strive to refine and enhance an idea, shaping it into something exceptional.

“ITV’s passion for bold, high-energy entertainment is exactly what The Box needs, and I can’t wait to see how they make it their own.”

ITV’s head of entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe said: “The Box is an exhilarating and immersive new format, that will not only test our contestants but also invite our viewers on the ultimate TV experience, privy to the contestants’ gameplay and strategy – but will they be able to foresee the outcome?”

Details for The Box are still to be revealed, with details due to come soon.

The news comes as ITV has also made a move for more reality TV, as Graham Norton will front new ITV series The Neigh-bourhood.

Not airing until 2026, the show will show real-life families trying to rub along as neighbours after they move into a street then negotiate shared meals and other social occasions — while slowly voting each other out.

The daily dramas that play out between households will impact on dynamics behind closed doors.

And to win the show’s huge but as yet undisclosed prize the contestants must defeat their neighbours while also ensuring they stay popular on the street.
