GERWYN PRICE cheekily taunted that a rival was “scared of me”.

Price, 40, won the Players Championship 9 trophy in Leicester on Monday.

He beat Ian White 8-4 in the final after White earlier stunned Luke Littler, knocking the world champion out in the last 32.

It was the second victory in this season’s series for Price.

The success came despite the Iceman struggling with an injury which forced him to pull out of darts exhibitions over the weekend.

But he was so confident he was going to get the win that he even took a savage dig at James Wade.

Price revealed: “Even though I didn’t feel good this morning, I sat on the table with James Wade and said I’m winning today.

“He said, ‘No I’m on your half.’

“Every game went on and on and he lost to Brendan Dolan.

“I said, ‘James you were scared of me today, that’s why you lost.'”

Neither Price nor Wade are afraid to get into tussles with their fellow pros – with various clashes over the years.

But Price will be happy if his darts can do most of the talking for him.

He has struggled for form of late – plus the physical issues – but will hope to kick on from Monday’s win in Leicester today and Berlin on Thursday.

Price added yesterday: “I was a little bit p**d off in the Premier League last week. I was struggling with a little bit of an injury so sorted that out.

“I didn’t feel too good at the beginning of today, I was a little inconsistent – one minute I’m playing well, the next minute no confidence at all.

“But I battled on. In the past I’d probably throw those games away but I stuck in there until the end and I won.

“It gives me a good boost of confidence for tomorrow and the Premier League next week.”
