Lyssa Louise, who posts under @lyssa.louise.m, uploaded a video with her hacks, which has racked up 6,000 likes.

She shared: “I’m gonna show you how I keep all my fruit and veg lasting three times as long as if you just chucked it in the fridge.

“The main thing is getting everything out of these little plastic bags.”

Her first tip was to remove mushrooms from their plastic wrapper and to put them in a paper bag so it “absorbs all the moisture”.

This helps to stop them “from going slimy.”

Next up she recommend that you “keep all your jars”, such as jam or pasta sauce when they are finished.

Lyssa advised: “Once something runs out, just keep hold of it, wash it out, and keep it.

“Put your berries, your tomatoes, and things like that in jars.”

Meanwhile, she also had a hack for keeping spinach leaves fresh.

The mum explained: “For spinach, place a paper towel in a bowl—this absorbs the moisture, stopping it from going slimy.

“Anything left over?

“Wrap it up like this, put it in your freezer, and use it straight when you’re cooking.”

Next up, she shared how you can prolong the life of vegetables that have a root, such as sweet gem lettuce or spring onions.

She shared: “For anything with a root still on it, stick it in a glass of water. It will keep it crispy and last so much longer.

“If you don’t have room, keep one out and use that one first, then the one in the water.

“Clean your fridge out so everything else can just go in there.

“I promise you, things will last so much longer.

“With the cost of living crisis, we can’t be wasting food.”

Many people were hugely impressed at her simple tricks, with one saying: “Such handy hacks! Saving this video for my next food shop day!”

Lyssa replied: “I found it’s made such a difference to how much I throw away. It also makes it easier to find things when they’re not in scrunched up bags.”

Meanwhile, another viewer said: “This is brilliant!!”
