A COUPLE have revealed how they ditched the UK for Bulgaria to buy their dream home.
Emily and Lee revealed that their house cost the same amount as a shed, and bills and food were cheap.
They revealed that they bought their dream home for just £5,000 – the same price as an average second-hand car in the UK.
The pair had lived in several countries prior to settling down, but they had no idea where they would go.
Lee revealed he found a website listing houses for less than £20,000 and saw a section for some under £5,000.
He added: “So I clicked on that thinking there might be a shed somewhere in Wales, but there were about 10,000 properties in Bulgaria.”
The pair knew very little about Bulgaria, so did some research and went to visit the country.
The pair fell in love with the country and eyed up a property on the site; when they saw it in person, it was a ‘done deal’.
They spent an extra £420 hiring a friend to set up electricity and water and deal with tax and land registry.
Emily and Lee now live in Bulgaria and have turned their house into their dream home, complete with a swimming pool, chicken coop, and land to grow vegetables on.
The pair also revealed that they spend just £80 on basic bills such as house tax, water, electricity, and wifi.
To top it off, the couple, who are currently growing their own produce, receive free food from their neighbours.

“Benefits of living in rural Bulgaria, just the most gorgeous neighbours,” the mum continued.
On top of this, the couple were thrilled with the location, which was surrounded by plenty of nature.
They were also happy to experience all four seasons: short, cold winters; chilly autumns; rainy springs; and hot summers.
Emily added: “That’s just exactly what we want, we need we need to see nature and we need to see animals and we need seasons.”
