Mums show off their £50 dining room makeovers & divide opinion in trend that could be the next shower curtain fence

IT’S the trend that took the internet by storm last summer – the viral shower curtain fence that thousands used to spruce up their gardens on the cheap.

But now, DIY fans are turning to their dining rooms – and leaving people totally divided over a home makeover that some joke they recognise from the telly.

The trend has left everyone totally divided – so, will YOU be jumping on it?

A year ago, we saw plenty of thrifty social media users proudly showing off how they’ve turned their gardens into an oasis using nothing but a shower curtain.

The popular trend, which had people buying shower curtains with scenic or exotic prints on them, and hanging them on their garden fence or wall, was indeed a major hit.

However, cash-savvy homeowners have started a different trend – using wall murals to give their dining rooms a new feel without forking out a fortune.

One mum, Christine Finnie, took to Facebook to proudly show off how an affordable eBay buy totally transformed her home.

In the post, shared on the popular DIY On A Budget Official page, Christine revealed she had used a wallpaper mural that featured a sunny island with exotic palm trees.

All chuffed with the easy makeover, the mum wrote: ”New spruced up dining room, cost £50 of eBay!

”Love these features walls, really brightens up the room.”

According to Christine, who had opted to keep the rest of the space white, the online retailer has ”tons” of different designs to choose from.

If you can’t get your hands on the eBay bargain for whatever reason, another social media user revealed that rival B&Q were offering the exact same wallpaper for slightly more – £74.

It’s not just Christina who’s jumped on this trend – fellow DIY lover Popi B Jayne, too, uploaded a snap of her brand new dining room which now had a sunny Greek feel to it.

She wrote in the comment: ”Love it. Here’s mine. Just wishing I was in Santorini.”

But while the two may be pleased with the transformations, the mural trend has left the web users divided.

One person chuckled: ”It feels like in Turkish restaurant.”

Another, meanwhile, spotted a resemblance between the dining rooms and what they had seen on one of the nation’s most popular TV programmes – Corrie.

”Reminds me of Hilda and Stan’s muriel in Coronation St back in the 70s.”

However, there were also plenty of fans, as the post racked up 34 likes and over a dozen of comments.

A Facebook user wrote: ”wow love that mural! looks so real it’s lush.”

Someone else chimed in: ”If feels very Greek vibes.”
