Horror as child left fighting for life & eight others hurt in devastating house fire

A CHILD is fighting for his life and eight others left injured after a horror house fire.

The blaze broke out at a property on Redwood Road, in Walsall at around 10.16pm on Saturday evening.

Five people, including the child, were transported to hospital

West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched five ambulances, four paramedic officers, the Hazardous Area Response Team and two Critical Care Cars from Midlands Air Ambulance.

Emergency services rushed five people to hospital including a boy with “potentially life-threatening injuries”. 

He was taken to Birmingham Children’s Hospital after paramedics administered advanced trauma care at the scene.

Two women, a man and a teenage male were treated for smoke inhalation and also remain in hospital.

Four other people were assessed at the scene but did not require further medical care.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Upon arrival ambulance staff discovered nine patients.

“Firstly, a child who was assessed and had sustained potentially life-threatening injuries.

“He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital with medics travelling on board for further treatment en route.

“Four further patients; two women, a man and a teenage male were assessed and received treatment for the effects of smoke inhalation from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to Walsall Manor Hospital for further assessment.

“A further four patients were assessed by ambulance staff at the scene and did not require further treatment.

“They received self-care advice before being discharged at the scene.”
