A MORTGAGE free cheapskate has revealed that thanks to her embarrassing hacks, she is able to cut down on her energy and water bills.

The 32-year-old, who is a big fan of “cheap hacks, reusing and living frugally”, explained that she barely ever has the heating on in her home, but thanks to a nifty trick, is able to keep warm in bed.

The mother, who is from the UK and a self-proclaimed cheapskate, recognised that whilst people may judge her for her “weird” tip, she isn’t bothered, as it saves her cash in the long run.

Posting on social media, the content creator, who doesn’t show her face online, shared a short clip with the caption: “Using this as a platform to share things that I don’t share with people in the real world!”

She added: “I’ve realised there’s lots of little frugal things I do each day to save money, which some people may think are weird.

“But hopefully there’s some like-minded people in the TikTok world.”

She then revealed how she and her little darlings keep warm in winter without breaking the bank, leaving many totally stunned.

So if the cost of living crisis has meant that you’re on a budget, you’ll need to listen up and take notes.

The savvy mother said: “I’m gonna share this embarrassing frugal hack that I’ve never ever told anyone before.

“We don’t have the heating on in our house very often, we use a log burner downstairs but at night upstairs it can get quite chilly in bed.

“Me and the kids all have hot water bottles but instead of emptying the water out each night and refilling it out the tap, I just reboil the same water.”

The mother claimed that she doesn’t drink hot drinks at home so doesn’t mind the kettle “getting a bit grotty”.

She also confessed that she does descale her kettle “every few weeks because of the hard water” where she lives.

The mother then continued: “I’m sure we can all agree that gas and electric bills are ridiculous right now, so as well as this saving water money, using a hot water bottle instead of having the heating on really does help on the gas and electric bills as well.

“I know this only saves pence in the grand scheme of things in my water bill but it does all add up, so judge me or love me, now you know one of my weird frugal hacks.”

Social media users react

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @diaryofacheapskate, has clearly left many open-mouthed as it quickly racked up 275,600 views.

But social media users were left divided by the money-saving tip – while some thought it was a “good idea”, others weren’t keen on having a cold home.

One person said: “I know my energy bills are high but I refuse to have a cold house for my family.”

Another added: “It’s so outrageous that you even have to do this in the first place, but well done for finding ways to save.”

A third commented: “Omg such a good idea my house gets really cold, I might start doing this.”

At the same time, one mother confessed: “I did this and forgot, made my daughter a cuppa and she said it tasted of rubber lol.”

Meanwhile, someone else advised: “A warm blanket under the fitted sheet also helps keep the bed warm.”
