WHEN it comes to interior design, it’s so easy to get your bathroom wrong.
Your bathroom should be a relaxing, spa-like retreat.

But if it’s giving more ‘budget B&B’ than ‘boutique hotel,’ the experts say a few common design mistakes could be to blame.
Bathroom design pros have revealed the biggest décor blunders – and the simple swaps that can make your space look instantly more luxurious.
According to the experts, outdated fixtures, cluttered spaces, and cheap-looking finishes are the three biggest culprits making your bathroom feel less than lux.
But the good news is, you don’t need a full renovation to fix them – a few simple swaps can instantly elevate your space.
FIX IT
Nothing cheapens a bathroom faster than tired, old fixtures – think yellowing plastic toilet seats, faded taps, and basic white radiators that have seen better days.
Rob Nezard, founder of UKRadiators.com, said: “Shiny chrome taps and basic white towel rails used to be the go-to, but they can look cheap and generic.
“Upgrading to matt black or brushed brass finishes instantly gives your bathroom a designer edge.”
And the same goes for radiators.
He added: “Standard white radiators can ruin the look of an otherwise stylish bathroom.
“Switching to a sleek anthracite or brushed gold towel rail is an easy way to add a touch of luxury without breaking the bank.”

A bathroom filled with mismatched toiletries, half-used bottles, and plastic storage baskets can make even the most stylish space look chaotic and cheap.
Kate O’Brien, of R2 Bathrooms, said: “One of the biggest mistakes people make is not having enough smart storage. Clutter instantly makes a bathroom feel messy and low-end.
“Invest in stylish storage solutions like wall-hung vanity units or mirrored cabinets that keep products hidden while adding a sleek, modern look.”
She also recommends decanting products into uniform dispensers.
Kate added: “Swapping mismatched bottles for chic, refillable soap and shampoo dispensers instantly makes a bathroom feel more polished – it’s a trick used in high-end hotels.”

A bathroom’s surfaces and finishes can make or break its overall look.
Glossy plastic toilet seats, poorly applied silicone sealant, and flimsy shower curtains scream ‘budget’ rather than ‘boutique.’
Kate says: “Small details like upgrading to a soft-close toilet seat, using quality grout in a colour that complements your tiles, and swapping a flimsy shower curtain for a sleek glass screen all help create a high-end feel.”
And Rob added: “If your bathroom feels cheap, the quickest fix is upgrading your finishing touches.
“A plush bath mat, high-quality towels, and elegant accessories like a framed mirror or stylish light fittings will instantly make the space feel more considered.”
