THE King has been dragged into the Prince Andrew Chinese spy scandal after legal documents were released by a court yesterday.

In them, the Prince’s former top adviser, Dominic Hampshire, revealed he and Andrew had two secretive meetings with Charles where they discussed an investment fund linked to the alleged spy.

Mr Hampshire claimed they were smuggled into Windsor Castle to discuss new roles for the Prince after his fall from grace over the Jeffrey Epstein affair.

The ex-adviser said he believed Andrew’s reputation was “irrecoverable” after his 2019 Newsnight interview.

One idea was a job with Chinese investment fund Eurasia. But a junior partner there was alleged spy Yang Tengbo, formerly referred to as H6 in court papers.

He was kicked out of Britain in 2023 when MI5 said he was a national security threat.

Buckingham Palace quickly responded yesterday, saying: “While His Majesty met with the Duke and his adviser to hear outline proposals for independent funding, the individual known as H6 was not mentioned at any time.”

It is understood neither the King nor his advisers gave approval to the plan.

Mr Hampshire’s witness statement, released yesterday, was for an immigration tribunal and backed Mr Tengbo’s appeal against exclusion from the UK.

The former royal aide tried to block its release as it contained “sensitive” information.

But the Special Immigration Appeals Commission agreed a bid by media companies for its release.

The document revealed Prince Andrew was so close to China’s President Xi Jinping he sent him birthday letters.

Mr Hampshire claimed the royal household — including the late Queen — knew about Andrew’s notes to the communist leader.

The ex-adviser described them as a courtesy letters.

Mr Hampshire, who left the royal household in 2022, also claimed he had trust in Tengbo and there had “never been one single red flag”.

He claimed Andrew was “of the same opinion”.
