The blaze started in a parked car before spreading to the camper next to it fanned by blustery winds.

A vehicle parked behind it was also reported to have been badly melted.

Photos shared on social media showed a plume of black smoke rising above the fishing port, which was busy with tourists.

A local business owner said that it was her campervan that had been destroyed, according to the Falmouth Packet.

She wrote on Facebook: “It was my campervan. A car on fire set my van on fire and melted car behind.”

Cornwall Fire Service said it received calls at about 3.40pm.

A fire service spokesperson said crews from Helston and Penzance used two hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

No-one was hurt in the fire.

A full statement read: “Crews from Penzance and Helston are in attendance at a car fire which spread to a small campervan.

“Firefighters are using two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

“There are no more details available on this incident.”
