Disruption is expected to last into the evening rush hour

The crash took place at around 12.20pm on the M25 clockwise at Junction 1b, just before the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge.

Both directions of the road were closed as a result of the collision, causing extensive congestion.

Delays are reportedly stretching as far back to Junction 30 on the clockwise carriageway, with motorists stuck queueing on the Dartford Crossing.

Anticlockwise drivers are also experiencing long delays due to onlookers and residual congestion.

A spokesperson for National Highways confirmed: “The M25 is currently blocked in both directions following a collision involving two lorries and a car.

“Emergency services are on the scene, and efforts are underway to clear the vehicles involved.

“Drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible and to expect significant delays.”

Traffic was completely stopped under the junction by 12.20pm although vehicles could still access Junction 2 for the A2 via the roundabout.

Emergency services, including paramedics, police, and fire crews were on-site reporting to the crash.

While there has not been any confirmation yet regarding injuries, medical teams are attending to those involved.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has been assisting in helping clear the wreckage.

It has also been ensuring the safety of the area, given concerns over potential fuel spill from the lorries.

Drivers are being urged to find alternative routes and avoid the area.

National Highways advised motorists heading clockwise to exist at Junction 30 for the A13 and take alternative routes towards Dartford.

For anticlockwise drivers, it recommended avoiding the QEII Bridge and asked motorists to consider using the Blackwall Tunnel or Dartford Crossing as alternatives.

Travel time through the affected area is currently estimated to be over two hours, and disruption is expected to last into the evening rush hour.

Kent Police is investigating the incident and is appealing for witnesses of the crash.

A spokesperson for the force said: “If you witnessed the collision or have dashcam footage that could help us understand how this happened, please get in touch.”
