Brit tourist, 63, dies after plunging from viewing platform while sightseeing at Segovia Aqueduct in Spain

A BRIT tourist has tragically died after falling from an ancient Roman aqueduct.

The 63-year-old sightseer, who plunged from the Segovia aqueduct in Spain, was sitting on the historic monument’s viewing platform before dropping down.

Local cops rushed to the scene on Saturday afternoon, with initial reports claiming that the man was sat on the observation deck’s parapet before falling backwards.

The man is thought to have lost his balance before plunging off the bridge nearby horrified onlookers.

The tragic man was seen by local police and medical teams but was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene.

Segovia City Council said police responded to the call for help at around 1:05pm after a person fell from the top of the Postigo.

The Brit holidaymaker reportedly travelled to Segovia last Thursday, along with two other people.

Multiple calls were received by local police at around 1:05pm asking for assistance beneath the popular tourist attraction.

Panicked onlookers told cops that a man plunged from a viewing deck on the popular Segovia aqueduct.

The platform is located on the stairs leading to Obispo Gandásegui Street.

At the scene, emergency services attempted to revive the person who fell, but ultimately failed.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British national who has died in Spain, and are in touch with the local authorities.”

The historic city of Segovia is located northwest of Madrid, in Spain‘s Castile and León region.

It is known for its famous buildings including Segovia aqueduct, which is one of its main attractions.

The well-preserved Roman structure is 28.5 metres tall at its tallest point.

It was originally built in the first century AD to channel water from springs in the mountains miles away to the city.

It operated all the way until 1973.

Last year, a daredevil Brit died after falling near 50 metres down from a bridge in a foiled social media stunt.

He plunged from the bridge Puente de Castilla-La Mancha in Spain – one of the country’s tallest.
