BBC viewers were left shocked and expressing their concern for Clive Myrie after his eye appeared to ‘droop’ live on air.

The veteran broadcaster’s left eye appeared to increasingly droop over the course of the half-an-hour News At Six broadcast this evening.

It sparked concerns from his health among worried BBC viewers who raced to X, formerly Twitter, to share their thoughts.

One viewer wrote online: “I hope Clive Myrie’s OK. A lot of us are noticing his droopy eye.”

Another added: “What’s the matter with Clive Myrie’s left eye?”

A third went on to write: “Is Clive Myrie OK? His eye’s drooping.”

Whilst a fourth echoed: “What’s wrong with Clive Myrie’s eye tonight?”

They need not worry though as Myrie himself has explained what happened.

Writing on X after the programme, he posted: “Happy N.Year everyone and thank you all for your concern over my left eye. It’s nothing serious, just an infection.

“I did think about wearing an eye patch, but the boss said no! A bit like Long John Silver. He wasn’t having any of it! Cheers.”

A BBC spokesperson told The Sun: “Clive is fine and just has an eye infection.”

Clive, who earns a BBC salary of £310,000, has been a regular on the BBC News bulletins for years.

As well as hosting the corporations’s news coverage, he has presented his own BBC Two travel series exploring his Caribbean culture as well as being the host of quiz show, Mastermind.

Last year, Clive came under fire for failing to declare at least £145,000 in extra earnings from the Beeb.

He blamed “administrative issues” for not filing his accounts on its external events register.

It showed Myrie had not declared between £145,000 and £255,000.
