B&M is set to shut 650 of its shops for 24 hours over the Easter Bank Holiday.

The bargain retailer will close all its England, Wales and Northern Ireland stores on Easter Sunday.

Branches in Scotland will remain open as usual.

B&M shops across the UK will be open as usual on the two bank holiday dates during the Christian festival – Good Friday and Easter Monday.

It’s common practice for retailers to adjust their opening hours during bank holidays.

By law, shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres in size have to shut on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

However, this is not the case in Scotland, with B&M’s Scottish branches remaining open on Sunday, April 20.

Of course, B&M’s exact opening hours may vary from branch to branch over the long bank holiday weekend, so it’s worth checking ahead to avoid turning up to a closed shop.

You can find out the opening hours for your local B&M branch by using the retailer’s store locator tool via bmstores.co.uk/stores.

You can also download the B&M app which has a store locator tool on it.

You just have to enter your postcode or city or town and it will bring up your closest branch.

If you click through, it will reveal that store’s opening hours, including Easter weekend opening times.

For example, B&M Norwich Riverside Retail Park is open between 8am and 10pm Monday to Saturday and 10.30am to 4.30pm on a typical Sunday.

Meanwhile, B&M Aberdeen Kittbrewster Retail Park is open between 8am and 10pm Monday to Saturday and 9am to 7pm on Sundays.

The latest news from B&M comes after Aldi and Asda revealed their opening hours for the Bank Holiday weekend.

[boxout headline=”Why do retailers close on Easter Sunday?”]

A legal mandate in England and Wales dictates that all store locations over 280 square metres are required to close on Easter Sunday.

The Sunday Trading Act 1994 restricts the opening hours of larger stores on Sundays.

Smaller shops, under 280 square metres, are not subject to this law but many still choose to close to give their staff a break.

These rules also apply to locations on Christmas Day.

Scotland does not have specific restrictions on operating hours for these days.
