COUNTDOWN has had a classic moment where a rude word was spelled out – leaving Rachel Riley blushing.

The Channel 4 show has been prone to a racy word or two over the years.

And during Tuesday’s show, another one popped up courtesy of Dictionary Corner.

The two contestants hadn’t been able to find a word with more than four letters – with one opting for Alas and the other going with Lose.

But when host Colin Murray threw it over to Dictionary Corner, guest Nicki Chapman admitted it was “really tough” but Susie Dent had found a seven letter word.

Nicki said it was Arousal, which Colin seemed slightly surprised by before saying: “Oh wow! Sensational, well done Susie, well done.”

The camera then panned to Rachel, 39, who had spelled out the word on the board, and looked a bit sheepish in the process.

A former contestant on Countdown previously revealed how certain rude words don’t make it onto the show.

In fact, some don’t ‘count’, even if they are technically a word.

Jen Steadman has been one of the strongest to even appear on Countdown, and is an octochamp.

An octochamp is a contestant who has won all eight of their heat games.

Appearing on series 69 back in 2013, Jen now holds a record for being the best female contestant in the show’s history.

She told Metro: “The Scrabble and Countdown dictionaries are totally different, which is really annoying.

“It means lots of words aren’t valid in one but are valid in another.”

As for the words? Jen explained that while “b***job” is valid in Scrabble, it isn’t in Countdown

However, “h***job” is indeed valid in Countdown, but not in Scrabble.

Countdown airs weekdays on Channel 4.
