All Creatures Great and Small star sparks doubt for Channel 5 show’s future despite double recommission

AN All Creatures Great and Small star has sparked doubt for the Channel 5 show’s future despite it receiving a double recommission.

The rebooted cosy vet drama made its debut on Channel 5 in 2020 and has quickly gained a large fanbase.

Nicholas Ralph, who plays James Herriot in All Creatures Great and Small, sits on a picnic blanket with a golden retriever.

Fans were left in tears after this year’s emotional Christmas special

The show is based on the bestselling collection of stories by author and real-life vet James Herriot.

It was handed a double commission last year much to fans delight, with many more stories left to tell.

But now that season five has aired, Nicholas Ralph – who plays veterinary surgeon James Herriot – spoke about the show’s continued future.

He told The Sun: “As far as All Creatures goes, we love making it and can’t wait to go back out next year, and we’ll see what the future holds.

“I don’t know what the future holds for All Creatures, but yeah, as far as we’re concerned as long as people keep watching and enjoying it, I’m sure we’ll endeavour to keep making it.”

The Sun can reveal production on series six will officially kick off in February this year.

During the emotional Christmas Special, fans of the show were reduced to tears.

Housekeeper Mrs Hall (Anna Madeley) found herself in a very tense and sad situation after learning that the HMS Repulse had been sunk by Japanese fire off the coast of Malaysia.

Mrs Hall’s son, Edward, was among the crew serving on the Repulse.

But with approximately half of the personnel lost, his fate was left unknown.

At the time of All Creatures Great and Small’s recommission last year, Paul Testar, commissioning editor of Drama at Channel 5 and Paramount+ said: “We’re so pleased that All Creatures Great and Small will be returning to Channel 5 for two more series.

“The show has captured the hearts of our audiences and we are committed to bringing even more of James Herriot’s unforgettable stories to our viewers. We can’t wait to share this next chapter.”
