CORONATION Street star Claire Sweeney has revealed she’s rejected the use of an intimacy co-ordinator on the soap.

The actress – who plays Cassie Plummer in the ITV soap – told the Off Script podcast that she didn’t feel like she needed one for her kissing scenes with Simon Gregson after her long career.

“Kissing scenes have changed as well,” she said.

“I’d been a fan of Brookside since I was a kid and I found out that Lindsay was going to cop off with Barry Grant (played by actor Paul Usher) – brilliant.

“Come to the snogging scene and I was like a snake with a big tongue. Straight in with Barry Grant you know. One for the team.”

But Claire revealed that things have changed and what she did then wouldn’t pass muster now.

She added: “Nowadays, I had to do a kissing scene with Steve McDonald, Simon Gregson, and they said to us ‘do you want an intimacy co-ordinator?’.

“And I didn’t know how to play it because I didn’t want to put Simon in an awkward position because time’s have changed.

“I just said to Caroline who’s in charge of the cast, ‘I’m OK with it’. But I was also aware that you don’t want to do someone out of a job as well.

“So I just said Simon’s great and I’ll just get a breath freshener and I’ll hold back on the tongue.

“And then Simon just sent a message saying: ‘I think we’ll be alright’. He was on the same page, old school.”

Claire recently revealed she’d signed a new deal to extend her time on the cobbles for another year.

Claire recently revealed that she’s hoping Cassie and Steve have a future – so she can have a big soap wedding.

She said: “I said this to him the other day, ‘I’d love us to get married.’

“He went, ‘Not another wedding.’ I’ve never been married in real life, I’ve been married once in Brookside.

“It would be lovely to have a wedding in Corrie.”
