Why it’s a good buy: The large capacity is great for families, cutting down on the number of loads you need to do. As well as a quick washer, there’s also an option to speed up any of the machine’s programmes.

How much does a washing machine cost?

Washing machines start from around £300 and go up to more than £1,000 for high-tech versions.

Cost depends on several factors, such as the load capacity, spin speed, number of programmes and features.

Generally speaking, an appliance with a maximum capacity of 7kg is going to cost less than one that can take loads of up to 10kg.

Equally, a machine with a 1200rpm max spin will cost less than one that spins at up to 1600rpm.

Factor in features like Bluetooth to control the appliance from your phone, delayed start, timers, quick wash and steamer functions, and the price rises accordingly.

What brand of washing machine is the most reliable?

You would hope that any washing machine brand you buy is reliable and fit for purpose.

Well-known names such as Bosch, LG, Miele, AEG and Samsung are among those that are highly rated by consumers.

If a new machine doesn’t work properly or has a fault, then you should return the appliance to the retailer you bought it from for a refund or replacement.

Washing machines also come with manufacturer warranties.

Standard warranties are usually one or two years, but some brands offer extended warranties of up to five years.

Are Beko washers any good?

Although Beko washing machines are among the cheapest, they are considered a good buy.

The company states 91% of its customers recommend the brand and its products have an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5.

Beko washing machines are expected to last anywhere from seven to 13 years and when it comes to features, it’s on a par with other low to mid-price ranges.

The number of features and programmes varies depending on the model, but you can expect to find the same options as on other brands.

These include quick wash, steam function, crease minimiser, anti-allergy and cold programmes.

There’s also a drum clean programme and energy-saving spin feature.

Some models contain recycled materials and some can be controlled from your phone via Bluetooth.

What is the life expectancy of a washing machine in the UK?

Washing machines are built to last many years, which is just as well as they are expensive purchases.

According to Currys, a new machine should last anywhere from seven to 12 years, but it also depends on how well you treat it and how often you use it.

Appliance manufacturer AEG puts it at 10 years, Beko says it’s seven to 13 years and high-end washing machine manufacturer Miele tests its machines to last for an impressive 20 years.

Of course, the make and model you buy will depend on your budget.

You may be able to buy two cheaper machines over the years for less than the cost of one expensive version, in effect doubling the length of time they last.
