EASTENDERS fans have branded the big reveal of Cindy Beale’s attacker a ‘red herring’.
Viewers are convinced Kathy owning up to hitting Cindy over the head with a shovel at Christmas was a ploy to throw them off the scent.

Kathy confessed to the attack last night as Cindy held a gun up to Ian Beale and accused him of doing it.
But fans really aren’t convinced Kathy is being honest.
In a discussion online, EastEnders viewers are convinced Kathy has only confessed because she is covering for someone.
Writing on Reddit, one “disappointed” armchair detective branded the big reveal, which came five minutes into Tuesday night’s instalment, “wasted”.
They are also convinced soap bosses previously hinted her attacker would be unveiled in Thursday’s 40th Anniversary live episode.
“Anyone else feel a tad underwhelmed and disappointed?” the fan asked.
“Didn’t like the way that Kathy reveal was done. Felt it was completely wasted. Really clinging on to hope that she was just saying it to save Ians skin.
“I could’ve sworn it was announced that the attacker would be revealed in the live episode?”
Replying, another viewer said: “I don’t think it’s Kathy. It was about as see through as Jane pretending it was her in 2015.
“Would Kathy really try to kill someone so soon after getting away with Keanu?”

Whenever there’s a reveal of a whodunnit it’s like a dramatic punchline. This was just ‘Oh btw Kathy did it, moving on…”
Other Reddit users have pointed out that Kathy was also named as Cindy’s attacker in Tuesday night’s after show, EastEnders Revealed: The Lock-In.
In a separate discussion, one fan said: “Eastenders the Lock In show is saying definitely Kathy. If so I am unbelievably disappointed. As if Kathy would do it after the Keanu situation! It’s so implausible.”

It just feels a bit anticlimactic and the fact that Kathy would do that especially after the whole SIX ordeal just seems implausible.
“I still think a twist is coming, but the Eastenders Revealed has also revealed it as Kathy, so it would be far fetched if that whole reveal to the cast was all a con, but never say never.”
Nine suspects have been in the frame for attacking Cindy with a shovel.
On Tuesday night, a furious Cindy arrived at No.45 armed with Phil Mitchell’s (Steve McFadden) gun.
She discovered Ian (Adam Woodyatt) holding their daughter Lucy’s locket, which was taken in the attack.
Believing this confirmed her suspicions of Ian, she confronted her ex-husband.
However, the Walford veteran insisted it wasn’t him who attacked Cindy and claimed their son Peter (Thomas Law) had been the person responsible.
As Cindy grappled with this surprise revelation, she was in for a further shock when Kathy (Gillian Taylforth) arrived at the house and took the blame.
With Cindy holding a gun to Ian’s head and accusing him of throwing his own son under a bus, Kathy shouted: “Stop!”
Cindy told her: “Just leave it alone, Kathy. This has got nothing to do with you!”
Kathy calmly told her: “It wasn’t Ian. He didn’t try to kill you. It was me.”
