THIS is the moment armed cops shot at a builder before he was killed after trying to smash his way into a police station.

Marius Ciolac attempted to enter Ascot Drive police station in Derby while brandishing a knife and bizarrely carrying a cat in a bag.

Dramatic police bodycam footage and CCTV captured the 35-year-old smashing the front doors of the newly-opened £9.5million station.

Moments later armed police officers shoot him in the stomach after he charged at them with the 20cm long knife on October 7, 2022.

A jury of 11 people were shown the shocking footage during an inquest at Derby Coroners Court this week.

The court heard how Ciolac, from Cernavoda in Romania, had entered the compound through a sliding metal gate shortly before 10am.

Bodycam footage shows Ciolac attempting to break the windows to the station’s entrance doors with his fist and feet while carrying the cat.

Officers holding tasers can be heard shouting “put the knife down” as he smashes the window with the knife.

He can then be seen attacking parked police cars with the weapon, breaking the window of one and triggering its alarm.

Other officers can be heard pleading with Ciolac, demanding he put the knife down but he calmly responds “never”.

Two minutes later armed police arrived at the station, launching stun grenades and a baton round.

From various angles, he can then be seen charging at one firearm officer who shoots Ciolac as he gets within just a few feet.

He was shot through the abdomen and taken immediately to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham, but later died from his wound.

The inquest continues and is expected to last up to four weeks.
