PARENTS are racing to a major supermarket after discovering that school uniforms are scanning for just 4p.
A savvy shopper shared the bargain find on Facebook after being left stunned by the drastic reduction at Tesco.
Posting on the Bargain Lovers group, they said: “I went into our Tesco last night and had to buy some new trousers for my son and when I got to till these trousers scanned at 4p says clearance.
“I went back this morning to see if there were any other sizes for future (I used the scanner to check) I manged to get next size up scanning at 4p as well.
“The only ones that are going through at 4p are the ones with the sticker on the that says (€11.50 / £9) if they don’t have the sticker they were just scanning as normal price.”
People were quick to question which Tesco this was as they were keen to get in on the deal.
The shopper revealed she had bagged the bargain at the Inverness store – but it appears that’s not the only store to have slashed its uniform prices.
Other shoppers across the country have been sharing their own 4p uniform finds at different locations.
One mum said: “I just got boys and girls both scanning through at 4p each. Thank you for the heads up!”
Another said: “I bought yesterday in Tesco as well for 4p.”
A third added: “Wow this is brilliant, heading to my local Tesco now.”
But shoppers hoping to grab a pair will have to be quick.
One shopper pointed out it’s s “last season’s stock so there’s not much around. You’ll probably want to go as soon as because I can’t see them sticking around for long.”
Another shopper warned shoppers not to take the items to staffed tills as they might be turned down.
They said: “Most stores will stop you buying it at that price, though, so make sure to only use shop and scan or self service and pay quickly. Never take a known 4p item through a manned till.”

There are no guarantees it will be available in your local branch or that it will be the same price, as retailers are allowed to price products differently across their stores.
But of course, its worth making a trip and checking what’s on offer.

Help with school uniform costs
For those who missed out on the bargain and are struggling with the price of uniforms, there is help available.
In some areas, you can talk directly to your school, which might be able to offer you free or cheap clothing.
Or, you might be able to get cheap garments from low-budget shops or charity stores.
Some charities offer help to families in need too.
But bear in mind charities often have a limited amount of money to give and usually have specific criteria which must be met in order to get a grant.

Meanwhile, you can always try approaching your nearest Citizens’ Advice branch.

If you’re not eligible for a school uniform grant you might be able to get help through the Household Support Fund.
Many Tesco stores do actually have school uniform banks, where people can buy uniform and donate to local schools and students in need.
There are also clothing banks in many Tesco car parks, which were rolled out in December 2003 and have generated 387,216kg of textile since then.
