A HOST of British talent is up for Oscar glory – but look likely to stay in their seats when the names are pulled out of the envelopes.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected the nominations for the biggest award night in the movie industry.

Adrien Brody as Laszlo Toth in a film still from *The Brutalist*.

Film still of Ethan Herisse and Brandon Wilson from *Nickel Boys*.
Emilia Perez was the favourite to win Best Picture

Among the hopefuls are home grown talents Ralph Fiennes, who is up for the Papal drama Conclave, and Felicity Jones, who is in the running for The Brutalist.

But they are both long odds with bookmakers to get their hands on the golden statuette on March 2.

Here our film critic Grant Rollings gives his verdict on who will win and who he thinks should win at this year’s ceremony.

Best Picture

Will win: Anora

Controversies surrounding former Best Picture favourite Emilia Perez mean that voters are likely to go for the sexually explicit comedy Anora.

Should win: The Brutalist

This hard-hitting epic will be considered a classic long after the awards have been handed out.

Best Actor

Will win: Adrien Brody – The Brutalist

The youngest Oscar winner aged 29 for The Pianist in 2003 is odds on to succeed again.

Should win: Adrien Brody – The Brutalist

No actor has ever wept with joy with such conviction as Brody in The Brutalist.

Best Actress

Demi Moore in a scene from "The Substance."

Film still of Mikey Madison and Mark Eydelshteyn in Anora.

Will Win: Demi Moore – The Substance

The Ghost star is brilliant in The Substance and Academy voters love a comeback story.

Should win: Mikey Madison – Anora

It’s probably too early for an Oscar for Mikey Madison, whose magnetic charisma drives this 21st century Pretty Woman along.

Still from *The Apprentice* (2024), showing Jeremy Strong and Sebastian Stan in a car.
Jeremy Strong, left, stars with Sebastian Stan in the Trump biopic

Will win: Kieran Culkin – A Real Pain

The bookies have Macaulay Culkin’s brother Kieran nailed on to win for this comedy drama.

Should win: Jeremy Strong – The Apprentice

Succession actor Strong goes from swaggering titan to deflated forgotten man in this Trump biopic.

Best Supporting Actress

Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón in a scene from "Emilia Pérez."
Zoe Saldaña dominates the movie Emilia Pérez

Will win:  Zoe Saldana – Emilia Perez

Arguably, Saldana is the lead in Emilia Perez, dominating the musical with her presence from the start.

Should win: Zoe Saldana – Emilia Perez

A great actress and a worthy Oscar winner, who is long overdue this prize.

Best Director

Will win: Sean Baker

The director of Anora keeps up the tension in his low budget sex comedy.

Should win: Brady Corbet

The Brutalist is a feast of visual artistry and the cast are all on top form.
