More tributes were laid in Diane’s memory

Her daughter Caitlin, in her 20s, suffered serious injuries in the frenzied attack shortly after midday on Monday.

She left a heartbreaking message outside her home, where the stabbing unfolded, among a sea of floral tributes.

Caitlin left a bouquet of flowers at a police cordon and a note which read: “Mum, I love you so much. I miss you.

“What can I say but you gave your life for me, I’m so sorry. My world.”

Last night a family member told The Sun: “He tried to go for Caitlin and Diane was in the way. She had come over to visit the children.

“It’s so hard. It’s the kind of thing you think would never happen to you. We are all devastated.

“Diane was a great mum and grandmother. She was absolutely amazing. It should not have been her time to go.”

Meanwhile Diane’s son Callum Cleary shared a photo of his “amazing” mother online in a heartbreaking tribute.

He published a picture of Diane beaming in front of angel wings, writing online: “I still have no words. What a woman.

“This Saturday we are going to be up at Lea Manor field to let off lanterns for my amazing mother.

“Let’s light up the sky for her.”

A close friend wrote: “I will never understand how someone could do this to you and your amazing family.

‘Complete shock’

“Family parties will never be the same without you. I will never forget how happy, bubbly, genuine and kind-hearted you were.”

Bedfordshire Police said a male suspect, of Luton, was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder and attempted murder.

The force had shared an appeal and the suspect’s photo after cops launched a murder probe on Monday.

It is understood he was taken to hospital for treatment for wounds to his hands.

A local resident said his e-bike was discovered at a local rail station during the police search.

Another local woman, Beverley Devane, 51, said she regularly saw the family and the incident was “a complete shock”.

A Beds Police spokeswoman said: ‘’Officers arrested a 25-year-old man from Luton on suspicion of murder and attempted murder in the early hours of this morning.

‘’He is currently in police custody for questioning.

‘’Detectives from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit continue to investigate after a 46-year-old woman was injured in a property in Turners Road North at around 11.45am on Monday, and later died in hospital.

‘’A second woman in her 20s suffered serious injuries which are not life-threatening.

‘’Anyone with information is urged to contact police via our web chat service on our website www.beds.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting Operation Wroxham.’’
