A MAJOR UK city is getting a new train station as part of a massive new neighbourhood complex.

Brabazon is the new development opening in Bristol on the former Filton Airfield, which was the birthplace of Concorde.

The station would have 15-minute trains to central Bristol

And a new train station is part of the development, with the North Filton railway station.

The two-platform station will connect the destination to both Bristol Temple Meads (taking 15 minutes) and Henbury with an hourly service.

It hopes to open next year, next to the 19,000-capacity YTL Bristol Arena.

Metro mayor Dan Norris said: “The new train station will be crucial for helping people get to the UK’s third largest arena and get around the West of England.”

Being backed by Malaysian firm YTL, Brazabon is set to cost as much as £2billion in the first phase.

The name comes from the Brazabon plane, which was designed in Bristol.

While the planes never took off, they led to the launch of transatlantic flights.

The massive redevelopment includes 6,500 homes, three hotels and retirement village as well as schools and the train station.

It will also have the largest new urban park in the southwest for 50 years

Once the YTL Arena is open, it will be the only indoor arena in the South West, and one of the largest in the country.

More than 140 events will take place a year including live shows and performances.

In the mean time, a new train route from Bristol and Oxford launched last year, the first direct route in two decades.

And it’s not just a new train station coming to Bristol as the city could soon relaunch long-haul flights.

Bristol Airport is currently undergoing a huge £400million redevelopment which includes a much larger main terminal.

Brazabon will also have the biggest new urban park in the south west in 50 years

And there are now plans to launch routes to long-haul destinations.

The longest current flight on offer is to Cape Verde, taking six hours, although the airport once had routes to New York.

These were scrapped in 2010, but could be relaunched along with Florida and Dubai.

Here’s everything else you need to know about a visit to Bristol.

One of the most-visited free attractions in the UK is in Bristol – and its a huge cemetery.
