ALISON Hammond gave away the ending to Vera in an on-air blunder just days ago on This Morning – but nobody noticed.

Brenda Blethyn had joined Alison, 49, and Dermot O’Leary on the ITV daytime show to talk about Vera’s last episodes.

Two presenters sit on a sofa in front of a Christmas tree, discussing the final series of Vera.

Last night viewers watched as Vera Stanhope decided to retire

As the interview wrapped up, Brenda was presented with an engraved carriage clock by the hosts.

While the 78-year-old was left touched by the gift, Alison then accidentally let slip Vera Stanhope’s fate.

She told Brenda: “It’s a little carriage clock because she’s retired.

“Well, I hope she’s retired because she won’t tell us about the last episode…”

Alison cautiously looked at Brenda as she quickly moved on and spoke about her gifted clock.

During Vera’s finale last night viewers indeed watched the DCI hang up her mac and hat for the last time.

She visited Chief Superintendent Khalon (Shobna Gulati), who had offered her a promotion.

Spotting an envelope in Vera’s hands, Chief Superintendent Khalon remarked: “Could this finally be your formal acceptance of your promotion?”

Vera replied: “Well, it’s more about making way, m’am.

Meanwhile, Vera will have one more outing on television tonight with a special documentary.

Called Vera, Farewell Pet, the show will go behind-the-scenes of the long-running ITV drama.
