James, 46, created Gavin and Stacey with best pal and long-standing collaborator Ruth Jones, 58.

She also starred in the series as the fan-favourite character, Vanessa Shanessa “Nessa” Jenkins.

The Carpool Karaoke TV presenter also wrote himself a part in the series as Neil “Smithy” Smith.

During the production of the highly-anticipated episode, cameras rolled to capture the emotional behind the scenes moments.

The new documentary, Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farewell aired on New Year’s Day.

Before the last ever day of filming, Ruth and James gathered the entire cast in a room.

This included the likes of Matthew Horne, Joanna Page, Rob Brydon, Larry Lamb, Melanie Walters, and Alison Steadman.

When James was chosen to reflect on the success of the hit sitcom, he couldn’t help but get emotional.

He broke down in tears as he made a speech to the rest of his co-stars, he admitted: “I feel very lucky, really [for] all of it.

“You have an idea with a friend, and then 20 years later you’re sort of sitting talking like this, it’s overwhelming, really.

“I don’t know if you, as actors in this room know how much Ruth and I owe you the success of the show.”

He continued: “Like [on] so many days, we would write a scene, and then you’d go, ‘I don’t know if this is right. I don’t know if it’s good enough’.

“And then you’d put it in your voices, and it would just be all right.”

The former Late Late Show star added: “And then to come back and do this one, I don’t know. It feels very, very special.

“I feel very, very lucky to have been able to create this for such a brilliant group of people.”

Ruth Jones then stated: “If i die the day after tomorrow, I will die knowing that i have been very, very blessed to have been part of such a beautiful show and to have worked with such a gorgeous group of people, both on and off screen.

“Thank you to everybody. And I raise my glass to you all!”

The whole cast then raised an emotional toast to all of their success and to last day of filming.
