A side-hustle can be a useful way to supplement your day-to-day job.

Research by e-commerce marketing platform Omnisend, published in October 2024, showed that 50.3 per cent of Brits have turned to a side hustle.

These could be things like selling goods online, tutoring or freelancing to get some extra cash.

With the cost of living increasing pressure on bank accounts across the country, what could you start doing in 2025 to earn a bit more money?

Reddit user @timidlittlerose has taken to the forum to ask users: “What odd jobs or side hustles have you worked that paid surprisingly well?”

1. Photography

One user said: “I did photography on the side for a bit. Not all that odd but I was shocked how easy it was to make £78 for an hour or two of work.

“Word of mouth referrals are the best and easiest ways to get clients.

“Start by offering a few close friends a free 30 min shoot. Do an awesome job and use their photos in your portfolio and marketing.

“Network with other professionals who can share your stuff.

“Finally, just start. I was so nervous to take other people’s photos at first.

“So I started asking strangers if I could take there photo to get over the fear.

“Funnily enough everyone is super receptive to it and then you can give them a business card with a link to your Instagram so they can find their photos and …they will end up sharing it.

Another Redditor suggested: “Whenever I need side hustle money I do odd jobs of maintenance or cement.

“Like if someone needs a ceiling fan installed or taken out, new led light installed, or a couple sidewalk squares made/replaced.

“All super easy stuff to do.”
